In simple terms Sleep Apnea is a medical term given to a sleep disorder where the main symptom is characterized by short pauses in breathing during sleep. Sufferers literally stop breathing for a few seconds sometimes up to 30 times an hour. Often the sufferer will make a loud snorting, snoring or choking noise each time they resume normal breathing again.

Even though they may be completely unaware of their condition the end result is that the sufferer of Sleep Apnea does not get a proper nights sleep. Its this lack of good quality sleep that leaves sufferers of Sleep Apnea feeling tired and sleepy during the day and in extreme cases this can lead to chronic daytime fatigue.

Because suffers of Sleep Apnea are most often unaware that they have the condition Sleep Apnea can go a long time without being diagnosed. Quite often it is the sufferers partner that notices that they stop breathing for a short while or other symptoms that are commonly associated with Sleep Apnea such as snoring and daytime drowsiness that alert the sufferer to his or her condition.

Types of Sleep Apnea

There are three different types of Sleep Apnea, OSA or Obstructed Sleep Apnea, CSA or Central Sleep Apnea and mixed Sleep Apnea which is a combination of OSA and CSA.

Obstructed Sleep Apnea OSA

Obstructed Sleep Apnea is the most common type of Sleep Apnea and is caused by a blockage to the airway; usually because the soft tissues at the back of the throat collapse during sleep. When this happens the sufferer stops breathing for a short while which then causes them to wake up and so open the airway again. This can happen up to 100 times a night in severe cases. There are several forms of treatment that a doctor may prescribe to sufferers of Obstructive Sleep Apnea including the use of a CPAP mask which delivers a small amount of pressurized air to the sufferer thus keeping the airway open. If the sufferer is overweight then sometimes this can be a contributing factor in Obstructive Sleep Apnea and so a weight loss program may help.

Central Sleep Apnea CSA

Central Sleep Apnea is quite rare and is caused when the brain forgets to send a signal to the muscles to take a breath.

Most CPAP teatment systems are very uncomfortable to sleep in and although they are extremely effective it’s the discomfort that causes users to discard the system often after just a few hours and so preventing the CPAP treatment from working.

That’s where the CPAP Multi Mask Sleep Pillow comes in, as well as allowing more freedom of movement and greater comfort especially for side and stomach sleepers this specially designed pillow works with most CPAP systems.

The CPAP Multi Mask Pillow also offers correct neck support and spinal alignment via the specially designed pillow which has cut outs designed to keep the mask and its tubing securely positioned during sleep, this is important as it allows the CPAP system to work correctly.

White noise combines different sound frequencies from high to very low and apart from helping us to relax and sleep better white noise has excellent noise canceling properties helping to mask out other sounds which might keep us awake.

White noise machines create a slow peaceful whooshing noise that emulate relaxing sounds such as waves on the shore, light rain or water falls. These natural sounds mask out unwanted noise coming from external sources such as the street outside, the next door neighbours or even someone in the next room snoring!

As well as helping us relax and sleep white noise can also be used to create an acoustic privacy effect when needed.

The Marsona TSC-330i White Noise Travel Sound Conditioner is perfect for use at home or on holiday. It is lightweight and compact and comes with a dual voltage power supply for use in countries with 220/240 v.

How we sleep is mostly affected by our internal body clock, this greatly affects our mood, sleep and energy patterns and it’s easily thrown out of sync. Our body clocks regulate our sleep and energy cycles and for some people who find it difficult to sleep, night shift workers and people suffering from jet lag the body clock stops responding to normal light signals leaving you feeling tired, drained, irritable and depressed.

Getting the right light signals at the correct time can reset your sleep cycle helping you to sleep properly and feel great again. Apollo Health GoLite M2 Blue Spectrum Light Therapy Device does just this using BLUEWAVE technology which is up to five times more effective than other light wavelengths.

In the 1980’s scientists discovered that that certain light spectrum’s help our brains to produce hormones and neurotransmitters that affect our sense of well being and our moods. Clinical trials confirmed that as well as being hugely effective using light causes no side affects unlike drugs and other medications.

Safe and easy to use the Apollo Health GoLite M2 Blue Spectrum Light Therapy Device will help your body to achieve proper sleep patterns letting you enjoy bedtimes again as well as giving you more energy during the day.

These simple tests will tell you whether you snore through your mouth or through your nose, this is important to know so that you can decide which snoring products or remedies are likely to work best for you.

Test Yourself To See If You Are A Nose Snorer

Press one side of your nostril while facing a mirror. While still pressing your nostril close your mouth and try to breathe through your other nostril if it feels like the nostril is collapsing or sticking and breathing through it is difficult then you are most likely a nasal snorer.

Test Yourself To See If You Are A Mouth Snorer

You won’t need the mirror for this one. With your mouth open make a snoring noise and then close your mouth and try to make the same sound. If you find that you can only make the snoring noise with your mouth open then this means that you mostly breathe through your mouth and so you are a mouth snorer.

The good news is that home remedies for snoring do exist and for some can prove to be quite helpful, the problem is finding the one that works best for you and your snoring partner. A commitment to trial and error should offer you with the opportunities to experiment with different home remedies for snoring until you settle on the one that works best for you.

Reach for the Stars, At Least With The Head Of The Bed

One idea in home remedies for snoring is to simply elevate the head of the bed. Raising the height of the head of the bed, by placing the two feet of the bed on bricks or another supportive product can often reduce the snoring of the person sleeping in the bed. As a home remedy for snoring, this one is also beneficial for those that become congested during the night or are suffering from a cold or intense allergies. It is by elevating the upper torso that it is possible to prevent the nasal passages from becoming congested and causing the snoring. When lying flat the person sleeping will get congested and sleep with their mouth open and thereby increase the sound and amount of snoring that occurs.

A Pillow Fight Might Provide A Home Remedy For Snoring

Science has determined that for a person that suffers from snoring, pillows only further enhance the problem. Anything that actively places a kink in the neck while sleeping can cause an individual to snore. For someone that is prone to snoring, this is a combination that will most definitely lead to a noisy and disruptive night. So, a quick home remedy for snoring might be to get rid of the pillows all together and thus prevent that primary kink in the neck and the ensuing struggle over pillow comfort and snore volume.

Tennis Anyone? The Tennis Ball Provides a Home Remedy for Snoring

An instantaneous home remedy for snoring is the modification of the snoring individuals sleeping position. If your partner snores less when sleeping on their side, consider implementing a sleeping idea that keeps your partner asleep and still keeps them on their side. Purchase a tennis ball and sew it into the back of the pajamas that your partner wears to bed. The tennis ball provides a discomfort when the snoring partner rolls over onto their back, thus forcing them to return to their side and maintains a snore free position. This home remedy for snoring does not work for everyone but it is a good place to start. The use of the tennis ball is to modify the sleeping style and pattern of the snoring individual. The idea is that the ball will reduce the habit of sleeping on the back and increase the desired behavior of side sleeping. It is believed that the tennis ball will provide the stimulus to create and modify the unwanted behavior and soon the tennis ball will no longer be necessary once the habit is changed.

It’s time to get back to basics about the do’s and don’ts of sleep! For some people, getting a sound sleep is the number one thing they would ever dream of!

It’s time to get back to basics about the do’s and don’ts of sleep!

For some people, getting a sound sleep is the number one thing they would ever dream of! There are people who have gotten so far away from the basics that they no longer enjoy that same restful night that so many of us take for granted. A lot of people get caught up in the fast paced game of earning money to survive and they sometimes go over the limit.

In order to fulfill their goals at any cost, they create some initial bad habits which eventually get bigger and turn into a physical or mental disorder. So what are the things that lead to these problems? Instead of putting themselves into peaceful and prosperous life, they end up beaten and out of energy? This was the result of not listening to the “do’s” and instead following the “don’ts” of proper sleep.

In life, there are a lot of things that we should practice for happiness and well-being. The race to get ahead sometimes takes the lead in our priorities and this can be a good thing for a while until it goes too far. Scheduling in a solid 8 hours of sleep each night is something that the wisest people have always maintained in their lives. You can’t make good decisions or keep your head about you if you are frazzled and distraught.

Furthermore, the sleep you do get that night will not be as productive if you lie down with all these worries and problems rushing through your brain. One hour in the morning where you work with a clear head and a relaxed mind will oftentimes produce ten times the results that an entire day with a frazzled and distraught mind could never produce.

In terms of the “don’ts” about sleep, some people tend to think that medicine will help them to get the kind of sleep they need. Rather than scheduling in the amount of time they need and simply disciplining themselves to lie down each night, they opt for a series of pills or alcoholic beverages to get them where they want to be.

Even if there’s no prescription from the doctor, they don’t think twice about what will eventually become of this new habit they are developing. “My friend does this and so I will do this too!” is a common rationalization for taking medicine to sleep or drinking alcohol before bed. People who decide this for themselves are obviously following one of the “don’ts” of good sleep habits.

Insomnia is one of the eventual results of poor sleep and it may become the result of prolonged anxiety or even depression that keeps a person up night after night. A popular way of relieving yourself of insomnia is to begin a routine of yoga or meditation each day. This will teach your mind to relax and teach you to sit still so that it will eventually be easier to lie down and sleep each night as needed.

Yoga and meditation exercises teach us to focus on our breathing and to watch our thoughts and emotions as we practice sitting still. At first, it seems that our mind and our emotions are a river out of control. Eventually, after practicing for a few weeks, we begin to see the river slow down and our emotions become more calm and relaxed. This has a very profound effect on the way we sleep at night and brings an overall sense of well-being that was worth every bit of effort we put into it.

Generally speaking, it is important to avoid too much stress in life. Accomplishments and challenges are very important but keeping your head and maintaining a healthy balance is also essential to a happy life. Too much stress can eventually lead to a sleep disorder. Relaxation techniques, meditation and yoga will all help to relieve these problems before they become too serious. The fact is everybody should make sure that they are getting enough sleep and should refrain from doing the things that can cause a sleep disorder. It’s really great to have fun and to take life by the horns but don’t exchange this for the proper amount of sleep each night! You will have a lot more fun and be a lot more successful if you simply have a good night’s sleep!
